**Important Announcement**

Considering the National Emergency declaration due to COVID-19, the Buddhist Institute in Spokane, WA will join in effort to prevent the spread of this epidemic. We will suspend all of our services at the Institute from March 15, through the end of May. We will continue our Friday & Saturday evening and Sunday morning sessions via Zoom (meeting link above).

Saga Dawa Retreat

The most important month in the Tibetan Buddhist lunar calendar is Saga Dawa, the 4th lunar month which runs from May 23rd up until June 22nd, 2020. Friday June 5th, which is the full moon day, is called Saga Dawa Düchen (Düchen means “great occasion”). This day is the most important holy day of the year for Tibetan Buddhists as it commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and parinirvana of our perfect supreme teacher, Buddha Shakyamuni. In Tibetan tradition, the first two weeks up until the full-moon is considered a very powerful time to accumulate virtuous merits, particularly the full-moon day.

In other Buddhist traditions this occasion is known as Buddha Purnima, or Buddha Day and is celebrated slightly earlier than Saga Dawa as it’s based off of a different lunar calendar.

To celebrate this auspicious occasion, Geshe-la is going to offer our annual **Saga Dawa Retreat** via Zoom to be held every Friday and Saturday night, and Sunday morning beginning Saturday, May 23rd through Friday, June 5th.

Teachings are presided by the most authentic mentor Ven. Prof. Geshe-la Phelgye, a Tibetan Buddhist monk since 1973. Everyone is invited to take privilege of this rare and precious opportunity.

All services are offered free of charge; however, your generous offerings are much needed for the maintenance of the facility, they are truly appreciated.
